Cure ITP Naturally
If you have a low platelet count, either from Idiopathic thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) or some other immune system disease, please consider what it is that you are eating.
Besides being aware of all the foods that you should not eat, surprisingly there are some wonderful super foods available which can surely help build up your blood if you have a low platelet count.
Then you need to introduce an abundance of raw, fresh, preferably organic, healthy foods to your diet. There a many super foods available to assist with low blood platelets. These wonder foods will decrease inflammation and help your body heal, which in turn will increase platelets . I must stress though, that just by eating these super foods alone to build up your platelet levels, it may not work as well as you would like if you don't in fact eliminate completely all of the bad foods in your diet. You must also take into consideration any other contributing factors that may contribute to your low platelet count, such as a virus, parasites, acute allergies etc.
The following are some of the super foods that will help with your autoimmune disease.
All food that contains Omega 3's – "the king of all fats" these include wild salmon, flax seed oil, cod liver oil. I found these especially useful in overcoming my daughter's ITP disorder. Just why are these so super and how do they help?
Omega-3 fatty acids, which are not produced by the body, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, increase your ratio of good to bad cholesterol, and may lesson the risk of cancer. Omega-3's definitely boost the immune system and will strengthen it and help build up low platelet levels.
Organically grown tomatoes – these nutrient powerhouses are jam packed with antioxidants such as lycopene not commonly found in may other foods, they are also loaded with vitamins and minerals such as potassium and vitamin c.
Berries – All berries, especially blueberries, just bursting with phytonutrients that neutralize free radicals (agents that cause inflammation in the body as well as aging and cellular damage), these tasty little morsels pack a punch when you are trying to build up your low platelet count.
Broccoli and Dark leafy greens – especially spinach and kale. These vegetables are phytonutrient dense, just loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
These are just a few of the super foods that can help you with your battle against ITP disease and low platelet count.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Just a note - if a person does have problems with clotting the Omega 3's will further reduce that ability same with blueberries and tomatoes. While this information is valid and good remember each person is different and to research what each fruit/vegetable has as its traits. Basically do your research, I have had ITP though not severe for almost 5yrs and have done a lot of experimenting as I do not have health insurance - what it taught about all else is always look into what you are eating and all health issues not just one as the body is a whole system not separate small ones!
Found your article & have been trying, spinach, salmon, & beet roots which I read someplace else. Have been taking omega 3's for sometime, but my hematologist just laughed at me. My platelets were 62 last time, 65 today. Back on steroids for now, but not giving up on the dark green leafy veggies & salmon. Guess I'll add blueberries also. I actually hate spinach, beets, salmon. But....I also hate steroids & having to have blood transfusions.ThanksJo Ellen BiddleSometimes just changing or adding a few foods is not enough. The body is a whole unit. You have to look at your complete diet and also lifestyle. After what we've been through I realize that now. Also, even some of the best foods could actually be harmful to you if your body is intolerant to them. Food and/or substances intolerances don't show up with visible allergic reactions. they just fester under the surface compromising the immune system.
The good healthy diet we were feeding our child turned out to be a health hazard. It wasn't until we used the bio-tracker eav testing that it became evident that Viv couldn't tolerate wheat, dairy and yeast, even though eating these foods never caused an allergic reaction.Hi JoI live in MS too and looking for a good Hematologist in MS.Please let me know your exp with your Hemo.please email me at rentalaraj_at_ gmail_dot_comDon't know any hemos in MS. Personally I am not fond of most mainstream medical practitioners. Most just want to prescribe drugs, not get to the root causes.Just a little update regarding food to build platelets...My daughter Viv had a relapse late last year. I came across a moringa based product that helped raise her platelets. Since then I have shared this product with some other ITP people and it has helped raise their platelets too,. If you are interested to know more please email me at maggi_at_cureitpnaturally_dot_com.Hi Maggi
Platelets were 18 yesterday, had 1st round of steroids 2 weeks ago went to 65, starting second round of steroids not really wanting to go this route. I know there must be natural ways to help this out. He said 50 plus regularly would make him happy, next step drug, blood transfusion, or possible bone marrow sample, last resort spleen removed..NO WAY!!
Can you give me your experience and what I could eat and take to help it along. Thank You Cindy Shaw
